SABA was proud to join a dynamic discussion at #NANorth American Carbon World 2022 in Anaheim, CA on how to decarbonize air travel.
Experts from Alaska Airlines, ENGIE Impact, RMI, and WWF-US examined efforts to decarbonize international aviation — including through the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), electric aircraft, and international laws & commitments.
Andrew Chen of RMI moderated the discussion and asked each panelist a magical question: “If you could wave a magic wand to do one thing support decarbonization, what would you do?”
Here were their responses:
“If I could wave a magic wand, it would be policy across the sector. If we could pass a tax credit for SAF in a US bill, that would do a lot for making an initiative like SABA more successful,” said Brad Schallert, WWF’s director of carbon market governance and aviation.
“I wish I could wave my magic wand to spur investment by having everyone understand what we understand: that Sustainable Aviation Fuel is the future of aviation,” said Kim Carnahan, Senior Director of Net Zero Fuels, Engie Impact and SABA Secretariat.’
“My magic wand move is that SAF becomes a phenomenally exciting thing for financial capital markets to invest in and put their resources behind,” said Diana Birkett Rakow, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Sustainability at Alaska Airlines.
Thank you to all of our panelists for participating.
